ANNUAL ART AWARDS 2010

 

 

The Judge
RON STANNARD FRAS, AWI, ASMA

Born in Sydney in 1934 Ron paints in oil and watercolour. He commenced work in advertising in 1949 involving graphic design, illustration and art direction.

Ron studied part-time at the National Art School from 1951 to 1954. He has undertaken painting and study tours to Central Australia, Tasmania, France, Italy, Britain and Canada.

Ron has been an exhibitor for many years winning many awards and prestigious prizes, and is regularly invited to judge art competitions in Sydney and country areas of NSW as well as tutoring at workshops and painting demonstrations for many NSW art societies. A teacher of oil and watercolour, RAS NSW and appointed Director of the Art School in 1996.

: "This is an outstanding work. Movement in the figures, just the right amount of colour and expression in the surrounding area. Vigorous and expressive."

Winner: Jan Schuster-Callus - "Sisters"

: "An excellent composition of the three children, each an individual study in itself."

Judge
: "A good example of careful observation and placement of flowers within the mass of foliage, and well painted."

Winner: Mitzi Alison Tilley - "The Paparazzi"

: "Such activity in the pastel. So well composed and vibrant with the casual use of the medium."

Winner: Yvonne Ferguson - "Intersection"

: "The handling of the watercolour medium is used to great effect to achieve the atmosphere of a night you would want to be off the streets."

: "This little street scene has the added interest of well painted figures. The warm feeling throughout adds to the effectiveness of the work."

Winner: Marion Chapman - "Textures of our Landscape"

: "I liked the gentle texture achieved with a suggestion of form by the directional lines. The varying shapes also add to the interest of the work."

SECTION 6: MYRLE KING AWARD

Winner: Mitzi Alison Tilley - "Pomegranates"

: "This is a good pastel with interesting elements making up the design. The strong directional lines of the drape keep the eye focused on the interest area."

SECTION 7: THE PORTRAIT PRIZE

Winner: Marlene Weaver - "Nonagenarian"

: "What a great portrait, such character achieved of the sitter by the artist. An interesting use of pattern and colour."
