PROFILE
Picture size is 130 wide by however high, generally square if possible. A prolific sketcher with comprehensive in-the-field skills of observation and experimental rendering which forms the basis of an art teaching philosophy successfully applied to leisure and serious amateur artists, Don offers private and class tuition. Conducts painting and sketching classes for adults and children: for adults in Coogee, Ramsgate, and with the St. George & Sutherland Evening College; also for children in school holidays, on-the-beach at Ramsgate. Inspired by the impressionist artists of the 18th century. Uses a wide range of 'mark-maker' and 'receiving' media to create images expressing the feeling and idea of subject matter. An avid sketcher of people in public places and 'quick portraits' as a way to improve perception and draughtsmanship. Numerous works are in personal collections in Canada and Australia. Working towards achieving personal expression has limited exposure to local art society exhibitions. A career commercial artist, largely self-employed, since 1964 in Australia, Germany and Canada. Past President and ex-member, Lions Club of Kogarah Inc. Foundation Member of Australian Graphic Design Association Graduate Ontario College of Art, 1964 Famous Writers Correspondence course, 1967 Member of St. George Art Society since 1994 and is our current President. Don was ‘Highly Commended’ at the St George Art Society’s Annual Art Show 2004 for the ‘Nancy Wilkinson Award’. |
