PROFILE
Myrle Julia King has had a lifetime of interest in art from her earliest days in Gundagai when she entered and won a Sydney Morning Herald Art Scholarship which brought her to Sydney. Her art career was interrupted when marriage and family intervened, but as the demands of family lessened, Myrle took up where she had left off. Myrle studied a number of courses, including a four-year Art Diploma Course and attended numerous seminars and workshops, honing her skills with some of the top artists of the day. The love of country, the old style housing, the winding stream, the lonely tree or the line of hills in the background all feature prominently in her work, reflecting her early experience. As her work became more sought after, she was invited to appear as a featured artist in a number of selected shows; she has also extended her interest in art to teaching as well. Her work was selected for the around Australia, "Portrait of Australia" Travelling Exhibition. She is the winner of numerous awards in oils, watercolour and mixed media. Private collections both throughout Australia and overseas display her paintings. Myrle Julia King Treasurer for 16 years of the progressive St. George Art Society and Treasurer and one of the leaders of the formation of the Combined Art Societies of Sydney which brought together 350 artists at the Annual ‘Art In Action' weekend at Kurrajong, NSW in 1994. She is a committed member of the prestigious annual "Art of Sydney" awards art show. Myrle is a life member of the St George Art Society and is our Vice President.
