PROFILE Jan started painting in grade school after taking an art class from an elderly nun who’s first lecture was about being able to ‘See’. Sister Gertrude was Jan’s mentor through her school years in North Dakota where she won numerous ribbons in school, the State Fair and the local Art Society, still in high school she was the North Dakota State winner of the National ‘Q-Tips’ Annual Award. Using a grant from the Bureau of Indians Affairs she applied and was accepted to the City and Guilds of Kennington Art School in London, England where she received a Certificate in Lettering, an Advance Certificate in Printmaking. Jan has shown her work in North Dakota, Northern California and Sydney’s various Annual Art Shows including the Easter Show, St Josephs College and Waverly. Most recent win was ‘Runner Up’ in the 2004 Kogarts Annual Art Show and ‘Commended’ in the St George Annual Art Show 2004 both in Kogarah. Attending many workshops with well known artists around Sydney, painting in oils, watercolours, pastels, pen and ink and loves doing commissions ‘painting peoples homes’ she has added a new enjoyment by making silver jewellery.
