PROFILE
Straight from high school Mitzi gained entrance to the National Art School where she spent two years full time studying fine arts. A career in graphic design followed with several years of painting and life drawing at St George & East Sydney Technical Colleges in the evenings gaining first place in Drawing, Painting & Commercial Art stage IV. It was during this time she had 2 successful exhibitions of her work with large scale semi abstract acrylics and also successfully entered several major art awards. After a gap of many years devoted to her career and family, Mitzi experimented with pastels and watercolours with the help of Lee Brett and Myrle King. Since 2002 Mitzi has won awards in various art shows for both watercolour and pastels. These include Sans Souci School Art Show, Oyster Bay Art and Craft Festival, Tumut Annual Art Exhibition, St George Art Society Annual Awards each year including the Award for Excellence in 2009 and 2011, City of Ryde and City of Parramatta Art Shows and a finalist in the Combined Art Societies of Sydney's annual art show - 'Art of Sydney' in 2007 and 2010. A full list of awards can be found on her website. As well as still-life and botanical subjects she loves to record the endless changing landscapes on outback trips throughout Australia. Working with transparent watercolours and pastels always provides a challenge which, when everything goes to plan, delivers rewards of immense satisfaction. Commissions and increasing sales from a variety of art shows is encouragement enough for Mitzi to spend every spare moment creating new works with her pastels and watercolours. |
